What to use:
Choosing the right fluid additives for your ground condition is crucial for a successful horizontal directional drilling project. We specialize in formulating HDD products that tackle everything from loose sands and gravels to sticky clays and challenging rock formations.
Explore our recommended solutions below to discover the right blend of drilling fluid additives for your next project—ensuring maximum performance, reduced downtime, and optimal cost savings.
Sand/Rock
5” or under holes For small holes and short shots PolyRite provides ample viscosity and lubrication to get the job done.
6”- 8” holes For 6” to 8” holes combine ZanRite-L and PolyRite to provide increased suspension and gel strength while maintaining viscosity and lubrication.
For 9” and larger holes use SureFlow for max gel strength, max carrying capacity, and to minimize fluid loss in an easy to mix, one-pale solution.
Clay
5” or under holes- For small holes and short shots PolyRite provides ample viscosity and lubrication to get the job done.
Sand & Clay
5” or under holes For small holes and short shots PolyRite & SureFlow Clay is all you need to handle sandy clays
6” to 8” holes Mix PolyRite, Sureflow Clay, and ZanRite-L to get the added viscosity and suspension required to carry the cuttings from the hole, while minimizing the effects of sandy clays.
For 9” and larger holes use SureFlow for max gel strength, max carrying capacity, and to minimize fluid loss in an easy to mix, one-pale solution. & SureFlow Clay to minimize the effects of swelling and sticking clays.
Gravel/Groundwater
In any size hole where gravel or groundwater is present we recommend using SureFlow.
Not Reclaiming – Add a minimum of 2 ½ bags of bentonite per 500 gallons. Then add the appropriate size pail of SureFlow based on your mix tank size. If clay is an issue add appropriate amount of SureFlow Clay per label.
Reclaiming – Add 6 bags of bentonite and 1 bag of SureFlow. Repeat until desired funnel viscosity is achieved. We recommend a minimum of 120 sec/qt funnel viscosity drilling gravel or groundwater. If clay is an issue add appropriate amount of SureFlow Clay per label.
